East Hampton Airport will transition to a model that would require aircraft operators to obtain permission in advance to “have full operational use of a runway, taxiway, apron, or airport facility/service," Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc announced this week.

At East Hampton High School, AWSEM stands for Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, Math (and Coding), and this club is offering an outlet for girls interested in those areas. The members are becoming proficient coders, designers, scientific thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborators.

Tensions ran high last month as the East Hampton Town Planning Board discussed a proposal that would see the 70.4-acre reclaimed sand and gravel mine in Wainscott divided into 50 commercial parcels. A handful of recent crashes on East Hampton Town roads resulted in minor injuries to a few of the drivers.

A Harbor View Avenue resident woke up on Sunday to find someone had thrown eggs at his house overnight, though nothing was seriously damaged. He called the police, who, in their written report, attributed the incident to “incorrigible youth.”

As we enter a new year and come upon the second anniversary of the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is time once again to review the most current guidelines for testing, quarantine after exposure, and isolation while infected with Covid-19. This is particularly necessary as the Centers for Disease Control recently updated their guidelines to reflect the latest known data about the rising Omicron variant, which has spread at an incredible pace.

The push to expand access to Covid-19 vaccines continues on the South Fork, with East Hampton Town adding five additional vaccination clinics in February and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital moving its clinics to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons to accommodate more appointments.

Gloria Taradash, who was known as Glorious, died of cardiopulmonary arrest on Dec. 24 at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. She was 93.

Michael Parrella, an Army veteran who worked for the United States Postal Service, died at home in Sag Harbor on Dec. 21. Mr. Parrella, who was 90, had been in declining health for the last several months.

Brent Newsom, a chef, caterer, and restaurant and nightclub owner who lived in Wainscott and East Hampton, died on Dec. 27 of complications of Covid-19.
