Films Made on SmartphonesLTV has announced a new annual program to celebrate young people's creative and capable use of smartphones. From now through Nov. 1, for its "Fone Film Festival," LTV will accept submissions of short movies created via smartphone by those 18 years or younger.
In December, a film festival marathon on LTV's channel 20 will feature the films, which will continue to be broadcast throughout 2022.

A Heart Project for Edie WindsorIn memory of Edie Windsor, the well-known advocate for same-sex marriage who died in 2017 at the age of 88, Southampton Town has launched the Edith Windsor Heart Project to build a heart-shaped pavilion at Town Hall to be used for performing civil marriage ceremonies. The heart will consist of 220 smaller, interlocking hearts, which will be engraved with personalized messages from supporters of the project.

New Harmful Algae Blooms Found in Wainscott Pond, Lake AgawamBlooms of cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, have been detected in Wainscott Pond and in Lake Agawam in Southampton, according to analysis by Stony Brook University. An Employee Shuttle in Downtown East HamptonStarting on Friday, East Hampton Village will provide a free morning and afternoon shuttle between the longterm and Reutershan parking lots for those who work in the commercial district. The shuttle, which will operate daily, will take a direct route through Herrick Park.

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has announced new inpatient visitation guidelines, allowing the admission of visitors “at the discretion of hospital staff,” according to an announcement posted on its website.
One visitor, 18 years or older, is allowed per patient during either of two windows of time, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.
Hospital rules stipulate all visitors must adhere to screening, handwashing, and infection control guidelines, meaning facemasks at all times and no eating or drinking in patients’ rooms.
A New Law for Bike Safety in SuffolkA new local law protecting cyclists from cars, mandating that drivers give bicyclists at least three feet of space as they pass them on the left, was made official last week by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
A welcome form of social distancing, Suffolk County lawmakers' move to protect cyclists followed a report issued by AAA Northeast that found the county had the highest number of deaths of "vulnerable road users" in the state.
