South Fork Islanders Boys Lacrosse in Tuesday Playoff

Mon, 06/07/2021 - 14:09

The South Fork Islanders boys lacrosse team has received the 10th seed among Division 1's top 11 teams, and is to play at seventh-seeded Connetquot on Tuesday, June 8, at 3 p.m.

This game will be a rematch of one played here on June 2, a game that Connetquot won 14-11. It was a tie game, at 11-11, with about five minutes left to play, but a couple of lost face-offs, three turnovers, and an untimely penalty that led to a man-up goal helped swing the game Connetquot's way in the end.

Otherwise, it was a dogfight pretty much the whole way, with Matt Babb's crew, a combined team with strong contributors from East Hampton, jumping out to a 3-0 lead, on goals by Cooper Brindle, Luke Marro, and Zac Mobius, before the visitors got their bearings.

Hudson Brindle, the South Forkers' senior goalie from Sag Harbor's Pierson High School, had seven saves by the end of the first quarter. He wound up with 20.

Thanks to goals by Bryan Pannasch and Jack Freel (two), the Islanders took an 8-6 lead into halftime, and upped it to 9-6 early in the third frame on a scoop shot by Marro. Although the Islanders couldn't quite get it done, they'll have another chance on Tuesday.
