In discussions with patients about whether to get vaccinated against Covid-19, the people who express hesitation worry that the risks of the vaccinations outweigh either the risk from being infected with Covid-19 or the risk to communities by allowing continued spread of the virus. Yet there are plenty of things we do everyday without a second thought that are far riskier.

Six Weeks Later, Election Is Finally Official

The Suffolk County Board of Elections issued the official results of the Nov. 3 election on Monday, adding the count of absentee ballots to the certified totals. The nearly six-week delay between the elections and their certification was due to a hand count of ballots in Southampton, Southold, and Shelter Island Towns, officials said last week.

Helium Balloon Ban Enacted

As it had signaled following a public hearing in October, the East Hampton Town Board voted on Tuesday to ban the sale of balloons filled with helium or any other type of lighter-than-air gas. The prohibition will take effect on Jan. 1.

Bonds Among New Buddies at John Marshall Elementary

A New York City woman staying at a house in Montauk thought she saw a prowler on the property while walking her dog at around 1 a.m. on Saturday. The only thing an officer noticed was fresh deer tracks in the yard.

Pedestrian Struck in Springs

An 80-year-old man was hit by a car as he was walking across Springs-Fireplace Road near Copeces Lane in Springs at around 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Felony Sex Abuse Charged

On Friday, after receiving a complaint that a man had sexually abused a young girl multiple times over a 10-month time period, East Hampton Town police charged a 49-year-old from Bridgehampton with a felony count of sexual conduct with a child under 13.

D.W.I. Charges After Crashes

After a 77-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision last Thursday evening, East Hampton Town police charged the driver of the other vehicle with two counts of driving while intoxicated and one count of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Carol G. Walter, 93

Carol G. Walter, who came to East Hampton with her parents in the late 1940s, died of organ failure on Aug. 11 in Manhattan, The Star has learned. She was 93.
