Nov. 22, 1945 - Nov. 23, 2021

Susan Dorothy D’Angelo, who lived on McGuirk Street in East Hampton, died on Nov. 23 at her son Christopher D’Angelo’s home in Rockville Centre. The cause was complications of diabetes. Mrs. D’Angelo, who was 76, had been hospitalized in August with kidney failure and infection.

“Susan loved her garden and flowers,” her family wrote. She enjoyed watching birds, especially hummingbirds, and was a devoted “grandma” who cherished time with her six grandchildren.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1945, at Southampton Hospital to J. Chester McGuire and the former Rad Mila Stoykovitz. She grew up in East Hampton and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Sag Harbor and then from Queens College. From 1986 to 2000, she worked as a paraprofessional at P.S. 46 in Queens.

She and Vincent D’Angelo, whom she had met when she was 13, were married on Oct. 21, 1967. The D’Angelos spent winters in Queens and summers in East Hampton until moving here year round in 2002. Mr. D’Angelo died in 2018.

In addition to her son Christopher, she is survived by a daughter, Nicole Marlow of Atlanta, and another son, Michael D’Angelo of Rockville Centre. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jenna Marlow and Jack Marlow, both of Atlanta, and Hunter D’Angelo, Dylan D’Angelo, Ryan D’Angelo, and River D’Angelo, all of Rockville Centre. Two brothers died before her.

A private service was held on Nov. 26. Mrs. D’Angelo was cremated, and her ashes and those of her husband will be buried at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton in the summer.

Her family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, Va. 22116-7023, or diabetes.org.
