As we ply along through August, our summer season appears to be busier than ever. One cannot walk through East Hampton Village and not notice an atmosphere of revelry and hope. For over 100 years, the Main Beach fireworks show has been a true staple of summer in East Hampton, and for over 80 years, the East Hampton Fire Department has been the proud steward of this show.
School Mulls Vaccine Mandate for Sports and Extracurriculars
The East Hampton School Board is considering making Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory for students who play sports on district teams or take part in after-school activities, though some questions remain unanswered at this point.
John Papas, Another East Hampton Icon, Is for Sale
John Papas Cafe, an East Hampton Village fixture since 1992, is for sale for an asking price of $1.3 million, Hal Zwick and Jeffrey Sztorc, the Compass Real Estate brokers who hold the listing, announced on Monday.
Harold Eriv of Foundation Press
Harold Eriv of East Hampton, the chief executive officer of Foundation Press, a publisher of law books, died of heart failure on July 20 at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla. He was 91.
John H. Fallon, 83, High School Social Studies Teacher
John Hatton Fallon not only "shaped the minds of numerous students" as an East Hampton High School social studies teacher for 30 years, but "as a father, he did it all, from being a scout leader to getting involved in every aspect of his boys' lives," said his family.
Lynn Klein, 72
Lynn Klein, a veteran of the Coast Guard who was a police officer in East Hampton Village for 20 years, died of cancer on June 14 at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The East Hampton resident was 72 and had been ill for one month.
Cora Marcus
Word has reached The Star of the death of Cora Brody Marcus at Southampton Hospital two years ago today. Ms. Marcus, a former resident of East Hampton, was living in Sag Harbor at the time of her death. The cause was a heart attack, following a long illness. She was 80.
