An $80,000 Package Goes Missing

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 12:30

A widely known Springs resident appears to be out over $80,000 after a shipment of silver bullion went missing earlier this month.

Monte Farber of Sandra Road told East Hampton Town police that he’d bought ten 100-ounce silver bars from an online store, JM Bullion of Dallas. The package was to have been delivered by FedEx, and was shown as shipped out of Texas on Feb. 24. As of March 2, however, it still had not been delivered, and that was when Mr. Farber called police.

He had been diligently watching the tracking updates from FedEx, he told police, and noticed that the package was marked “delivered” on March 2, but without a signature. The FedEx driver was contacted and said he hadn’t seen it in his truck. Police scoured the neighborhood to determine if it had been mistakenly left at someone else’s doorstep. They found nothing.

As of now, detectives are trying to determine whether the silver was stolen in the Town of East Hampton. Mr. Farber was advised to make a claim with the seller, as well as with FedEx.
