Thu, 03/12/2026 - 12:24

After swerving to avoid a deer on Napeague, a local man and his passenger hit a tree and were injured.

Aleksi Tushishvili of East Hampton, 33, told town police he was headed west on Montauk Highway at 9 p.m. last Thursday when the animal ran out in front of his BMW S.U.V. He swerved sharply, lost control of the vehicle, and hit the tree.

His passenger, Lasha Bakuradze, 32, was taken by ambulance to the Stony Brook emergency room in East Hampton after complaining of head and neck pain.

According to police, Mr. Tushishvili was driving without a license, and he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor.   He was additionally ticketed for driving with a suspended license, a violation.

Mr. Tushishvili, who also complained of head and neck pain, was taken to police headquarters for booking. After being released on his own recognizance with a future court date, he too was taken for treatment by ambulance to the Pantigo Road emergency room.
