Police removed a body from a patch of woods on Lion Head Rock Road in Clearwater Beach, Springs, Tuesday afternoon.

None of the six officers or a detective on the scene would answer questions. The area was cordoned off with yellow tape. A duty lieutenant who answered the phone at East Hampton Town police headquarters called it an "active investigation" but would not comment further.

Animal control was also on the scene as police loaded the body onto a stretcher. A smaller yellow plastic sheet was laid on the ground near the stretcher, while across the street a small child was seen playing soccer in the yard.

A neighbor passing by said he heard a truck racing around earlier in the afternoon. It was unclear if that was related. On social media as the investigation was unfolding there was speculation about what could have happened, with one person saying officers looked at security footage from their house and told them to lock their doors.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
