“Soldiers, Sailors From Here On Duty in War-Hit Hawaii” was how the Pearl Harbor attack, 80 years ago next week, was reported in The Star. Nineteen men and three women from East Hampton were believed to have been stationed in or near Honolulu, Hawaii, when the bombing began.

Al-Anon Meetings on the South Fork

For those who have relatives or friends struggling with alcohol, Al-Anon meetings held at a handful of locations on the South Fork offer support. Adults meet at the Montauk Community Church on Sundays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Lunch meetings take place on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. at the East Hampton Presbyterian Church session house. There are also meetings on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

A. Robert Towbin, 86

A. Robert Towbin, an investment banker and sailor who lived in Key Largo, Fla., and New York City, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on Nov. 18 at home in Key Largo. A former East Hampton resident, he was 86 years old.
