Who Was the Actual Driver?

Thu, 02/19/2026 - 10:27

A 14-year-old driving on Hand’s Creek Road on Jan. 19 was involved in an accident that eventually led to the arrest of his father on Feb. 3.

The father, Miguel Chafla Sislema, 43, allegedly told East Hampton Town police that he alone had been driving the 2015 Chevy Tahoe on the morning of the accident. He has since been charged with falsely reporting an incident, after it was determined that the son was in fact the driver, and was additionally charged with obstructing governmental administration, both misdemeanors.

Police did not release details of the 2:55 a.m. accident due to the juvenile status of the driver. The boy had four friends in the car, three 14-year-olds and one who is 16.

Mr. Chafla Sislema was held by police for several hours before being released with an appearance ticket. He is due back in Town Justice Court on March 11.
