The manager of the recycling center reported to police on Feb. 10 that two women had been intercepting others and taking their bottles and cans before they could be disposed of, in violation of the rules. The two have been warned in the past, the manager said. Police warned them that they will be charged with trespassing should Firefighters put out a dumpster fire on Further Lane last Thursday.
East Hampton Village
On Feb. 9, security cameras caught two shoplifters stealing numerous items in excess of $1,000 from the Montauk Highway CVS. A manager who reviewed the footage reported the thefts to police, who are investigating.
Two contractors working Monday on Egypt Lane, at different houses, were ticketed for doing construction on a federal holiday, which is not allowed under village code.
Police jump-started a BMW sedan stuck on Main Street on Feb. 10 after moving it off the road. The owner said she’d call a towing service after the jump-start couldn’t keep the car running.
Smoke seen in a house on McGuirk Steet last Thursday was determined to be coming from a malfunctioning chimney. The East Hampton Fire Department aired the house out without incident.
Montauk
A concerned man reported to the Montauk precinct on Feb. 9 that he’d received a call purporting to be from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, telling him they needed information from him to complete an ongoing investigation. He said he thought the call was a scam, and police advised him to block the number.
Sag Harbor
“Numerous complaints” came in about an icy sidewalk outside the Corner Bar on Feb. 11, according to police. Village code requires business and homeowners with sidewalks adjoining public property to shovel and treat snow and ice. The officer who went to check on the hazardous conditions said he almost fell, and scattered some ice melt around the area. Code enforcement informed the bar’s new owners of the rules.
After a water main broke on Main Street on Feb. 9, the Suffolk County Water Authority was notified for repairs.
Wainscott
East Hampton Town detectives have determined that a $245,000 “theft of items” in a storage unit is a civil matter. On Jan. 13, a woman reported that furnishings, rugs, and art had been taken from her storage unit on Industrial Road. Detectives investigated and found that the woman’s husband had sent for the items to be delivered to his house in Florida.
