Amazon Van Rear-Ended

Thu, 09/25/2025 - 11:08

A Ford pickup truck struck an Amazon delivery van at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett on the afternoon of Sept. 17, injuring both drivers.

According to the accident report, the van was waiting to turn left at the intersection when the truck, which had been eastbound, rear-ended it. Its driver, Elian Abreu of East Hampton, 24, told town police he’d been “trying to drive around” the stopped van when his front tire “fell off,” causing the collision.

The truck then swerved into a guardrail by the roadside before coming to a stop. He sustained cuts to his arm in the impact, causing minor bleeding, but refused medical attention. There was significant damage to the front end of the truck, and it was towed by T&B Auto to V&V Auto Service in Amagansett.

The driver of the delivery van, Armond L. Peterson of Far Rockaway, 39, complained of head pain at the scene but also refused medical attention. The van was damaged at the point of impact but did not require a tow.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
