Police officers from East Hampton Town and Sag Harbor Village joined forces on Monday to collar a grand larceny suspect just days after he allegedly stole from a shop in Sag Harbor.
Omar Perry of Brooklyn, 44, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, for allegedly stealing a leather vest priced at $1,200.
While listening to the scanner in the early morning hours of Monday, Sag Harbor police heard that East Hampton officers had the suspect’s car stopped on North Main Street. After heading to the scene, village police were able to identify the car and its driver as their quarry. They had been looking for the driver of a 2025 BMW 430i, which they’d identified over the weekend through Flock camera footage as the getaway vehicle.
Mr. Perry and a woman identified as Nadia Samman were trying on clothes Saturday afternoon at Ava’s & Around Again, village police said, but left without making a purchase. They “seemed suspicious,” the owner told police, and she attempted to follow them, but was unsuccessful. According to the report, “they had proceeded a significant distance away and were not located.”
The owner then told police that a women’s Polo hip-length shearling vest was missing from the store’s inventory.
An employee told officers that the two in question had previously purchased a necklace for $190, with “a wad of crisp $100 bills as payment.”
After police took him to headquarters, Mr. Perry stated that “the jacket is at the house.” Police reports indicate that the house he was referring to was Ms. Samman’s house in East Hampton. After receiving a call from Ms. Samman, whom Google lists as a 2020 graduate of the Tulane School of Law, Mr. Perry would not elaborate further.
Ms. Samman told police she would be representing Mr. Perry, and that she “did not want him speaking to law enforcement.”
Mr. Perry could face as much as four years in prison if convicted of the felony. He is scheduled to appear before Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace on May 8.
Police impounded the BMW on the grounds that it had been used in the commission of a crime.
