Callers tried to solicit money from a woman, she told police on April 14, asking her to authorize a payment that she did not make before transferring her to someone they said was a bank employee, and then to a “police department that deals with these incidents.” The woman recognized the scam and got in touch with police.

The sound of what a resident believed to be gunshots near Cedar Point Park on Friday night was likely fireworks, police said.

An intoxicated man from Manhattan was removed from the downtown movie theater by police Monday night after another patron said he had followed her there and was making “untoward remarks.” The theater’s manager said the man was not welcome back.
Police said a man in a Lexus with Florida license plates who had parked at Main Beach Friday night refused to move the car for a Highway Department crew when they closed the parking lot for sand removal. The car had been moved by the time police arrived.
A drone was deployed on Saturday afternoon to check the well-being of two people in a sailboat. A woman on Lily Pond Lane was concerned for the two, as they were not catching any wind, she said. After a closer look with the drone, the boaters did not appear to be in distress, police said.
A tractor-trailer weighing close to 100,000 pounds caused damage to a curb on the corner of Main Street and Newtown Lane on Monday, police said. The roadway is restricted to vehicles weighing 18,000 pounds or under. The driver was issued a ticket to appear in court on May 4.
A manager at the CVS store on Montauk Highway suspected that an elderly couple had stolen food and other items on April 13, and the next day reported it to police, who are investigating.

Police transported a Wyandanch man who appeared to be intoxicated at the train station to Stony Brook University Hospital on Sunday morning. Police had been called after receiving reports that the man had been bothering people.
A Coram man charging his cellphone using an electrical outlet outside a motel on South Emerson Avenue was yelling at passing drivers on the morning of April 15.
Sag Harbor
On Sunday, village police assisted Southampton Town police on Whalers Drive, where an assault with a knife occurred just after midnight, they said.
A woman Southampton Town police thought might be missing or in danger was found in the village on April 14. On Bay Street that morning, she told police that she got coffee and had her computer checked out. Police confirmed that she was safe, and she left to go back to the city.
On Friday a man on Bay Street called police to report that his neighbor’s landscapers were cutting down a tree that the village’s Building Department said had to remain standing. The tree, located on the caller’s property, had already been cut, but was still standing when police arrived.
Police asked a group to extinguish a beach fire at Havens Beach on the night of April 14. Fires are not permitted on the beach after 10 p.m.

A man walking near Church Lane on Springs-Fireplace Road with a flashlight early Saturday morning was taken to the East Hampton train station after he told police his friends had left him without a ride home to Hampton Bays after a night out drinking.
Wainscott
A septic company’s employee told police on April 10 that she had received texts and calls from an unhappy customer. When police tried to reach the man, they were instead referred to a local attorney. Police told the lawyer about his client’s behavior toward the employee and said the septic company would no longer be providing him with service.
