Lightning Blamed in Fire
Despite difficult weather conditions Saturday morning, firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze at a bayfront house in Amagansett. The fire started after a lightning strike, Amagansett Fire Chief Bill Beckert said.
Joyride Ended With a Bang
Ryan J. Albie was asleep on his boat, the Hatteras, docked at Offshore Marina on West Lake Drive in Montauk on Aug. 13 when, at about 3:55 a.m., he was awakened by the sound of the boat hitting something. He found four young men, who ran when confronted, on the 45-foot craft.

Train From Montauk Hit Man in Southampton
A Long Island Rail Road train hit a 28-year-old man who may have fallen asleep on the tracks in Southampton Village Monday, according to police.
