Long Overdue

Landowners in Springs cannot support the Springs Board of Education’s increased annual budget. Eighty-four employees is too many. Then to give a $20,000 raise to the Springs School superintendent this year, with high unemployment in New York State, seems almost insane! It smells of favoritism.

In Shock

attended the Springs School budget meetings. I pay taxes in Springs, and I am in shock.

True Measure

In an act of professional integrity, Isabel Madison quietly pointed to a piece of paper she handed out at the second public hearing last week Tuesday. The piece of paper was the tax bill you can expect to receive in December 2011...

Needs of Others

On behalf of our clients, all of us at East Hampton Meals on Wheels do heartily thank Boy Scout Troop 298, all of the scout leaders, and the American Legion Post 419, who made possible the delicious spaghetti dinner on Sunday. Our volunteers delivered more than 50 dinners to our homebound clients...

No One Home

The other day while driving on Route 114 I came across a trembling dog, a Weimeraner in the middle of this busy road. The dog was walking in circles and shaking. Several cars swerved to avoid him. I took a leash I had and proceeded toward the dog.

Worth a Visit

I am enthusiastically writing to recommend Race Lane restaurant. Recently open for the season, there is a new chef fresh from Nantucket. The menu still has last year’s favorites and some absolutely amazing additions...

Shall We?

Nuclear power produces only 15 percent of the globe’s electricity. Is it really worth it? Reactors produce the most toxic waste products known to mankind. Is it really worth it?

Out of Money

While Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac execs rob the taxpayers of millions of our dollars with their multimillion-dollar salaries, the federal government hides another $2 billion in Obamacare for bailouts...

New Perspective

One has to wonder if Richard Higer, a regular on these pages, would benefit from widening his source material for his diatribes outside his admitted main source of information, The New York Times. If that were the case, he might be reminded that the Congressional Budget Office is only committed to evaluating on the legislative assumptions incorporated in the actual bills it reviews.

Finely Crafted

    East Hampton

    August 8, 2011

Dear David,

I wanted to take a moment to commend East Hampton Boy Scout Troop 298 for raising $2,800 for Soldier Ride two weeks ago.

The boys in the troop constructed a fine fishing rod and reel and conducted a raffle to raise the money.

    A brief encounter at Wald

On the Beach

    East Hampton

    July 29, 2011

To The Editor:

Maybe (?) East Hampton Town could — should — address at least one of the issues below concerning the beach in Wainscott on Beach Lane:

    1. The sign clearly says, “No Dogs between the hours of 10 a.m.-6 p.m.,” yet dogs are on the beach morning, noon, and night.

Inexcusable

    Springs

    July 6, 2011

Dear Editor

Our town has become a place where people seem to be harboring more and more hate toward one another. I truly hope this story reaches all those who witnessed this incident, along with the individual that displayed such disgusting behavior.

Mess Remains

    East Hampton

    June 10, 2011

To the Editor,

Shame on East Hampton for allowing its beaches to deteriorate.

I went to the beach on Memorial Day weekend at Beach Lane in Wainscott. Walking barefoot on the sand is a thing of the past. Litter was everywhere.
