Mother’s Day Brunch

Mother’s Day is widely considered the busiest day of the year for dining out, and plenty of South Fork restaurants are planning to take advantage of that.

Fresno in East Hampton will host its first ever Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday from 11:30 to 3. Among the appetizers are asparagus, ham, and eggs, with grilled local asparagus, crispy prosciutto, hard-cooked egg, and vinaigrette, and fried calamari with crispy pepperoncini, smoked guajillo chile aioli, and marinara.

Mains include a truffle frittata with local wild mushrooms and fontina cheese; duck hash with shredded duck confit, sautéed spinach, fried egg, and Hollandaise; classic French toast with fresh berry compote and vanilla whipped cream, and pan-seared Scottish salmon with black forbidden rice, sautéed baby bok choy, and mango-coconut sauce. The restaurant will reopen for dinner at 5:30.

Nick and Toni’s in East Hampton will offer a brunch prix fixe menu from 11 to 3 and a la carte specials for dinner on Sunday starting at 5:30. The starters at brunch include Lioni burrata with chilled sweet pea soup and crispy prosciutto; crispy artichokes with ramp aioli, and cured wild salmon with blinis, crème fraîche, and pickled ramps.

Among the second courses are lemon ricotta pancakes with rhubarb jam, fresh cream, and applewood smoked bacon; spring onion quiche with head-on prawns and field greens; skirt steak tagliata with crispy potatoes and salsa verde, and roasted wild mushrooms with poached eggs, crispy polenta, and wild arugula. Desserts include strawberry rhubarb crostata and tartufo. The cost is $80 plus tax and gratuity.

East Hampton’s Highway restaurant will host brunch on Sunday from 11 to 2. The pastry selection includes chocolate croissants, coffee cake, almond muffins, jam, and Vermont butter. Among the entrees are shrimp and avocado toast with chives and Fresno chiles; a smoked salmon board with toast points, horseradish, crème fraîche, capers, and red onion; brioche French toast with whipped cream, berries, and maple syrup, and chicken Milanese with arugula salad, heirloom tomato, and lemon.

Dinner will be served from 5 to 9.

The 1770 House in East Hampton will serve mothers a complimentary glass of sparkling wine with dinner on Sunday. Among the new dishes on the $65 two-course prix fixe dinner are chilled spring sweet pea soup with Mecox Dairy Gruyére; poached asparagus with miso aioli and togarashi peanuts; roasted Montauk tilefish, and house-made ricotta tortelloni.

The Bell and Anchor in Noyac will serve brunch on Sunday from 11:30 to 2 and dinner from 5:30 to 8:30. The restaurant’s a la carte menu will be available for both brunch and dinner.

Brunch specials feature lobster Benedict with an English muffin, Canadian bacon, poached egg, Hollandaise, and lobster; duck hash with a poached egg and frisee with vinaigrette; French toast with sliced bananas and Vermont maple syrup, and a house-smoked salmon plate with a bagel, cream cheese, capers, and red onion.

Montauk’s Navy Beach is offering a three-course prix fixe dinner, priced at $60 plus tax and gratuity, from noon to 9 on Sunday. The first course offers a choice of clam and corn chowder, a little gem Caesar salad, or Prince Edward Island mussels “scampi style.”

Second course options are a choice of bucatini pomodoro; a Buddha bowl with grilled shrimp or tuna tataki, or everything bagel-crusted salmon. Dessert is the chef’s choice.

In addition to its regular a la carte menu, East Hampton’s Village Bistro will offer a prix fixe Mother’s Day menu available from Friday through Sunday. Starters are tuna tartare, burrata, shrimp tacos, or bistro salad. Main course options are pasta with spicy vodka sauce; a burger; Prince Edward Island mussels; roasted cauliflower, or roasted salmon. Dessert choices are cheesecake, molten chocolate cake, or gelato.

The cost is $48 and includes a glass of Prosecco or a Mimosa. Starting Sunday, the restaurant will be open for Sunday brunch from 11 to 3.

Dopo La Spiaggia in Sag Harbor and Dopo Argento in Southampton will both open for brunch on Mother’s Day at noon. In addition, both restaurants are offering a $44 two-course prix fixe Sunday through Thursday starting at 5 p.m. The special includes $11 select glasses of wine and $44 select bottles of wine. The prix fixe is not available on holidays and holiday weekends.

Now open for its 33rd season and serving dinner Thursday through Monday from 5 p.m., Bostwick’s on the Harbor in Springs will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday with brunch from 11:30 to 2:30.

The menu will include eggs Benedict, crab Benedict, omelettes, French toast, banana Nutella crepes, and a complimentary glass of Prosecco or wine. The restaurant will reopen for dinner at 4; it does not accept reservations.

Arthur and Sons Is Back

Arthur and Sons will reopen in Bridgehampton next Thursday with its “old school” Italian-American red sauce classics. The season will open with a three-course prix fixe menu priced at $39.95.

Appetizers include Caesar salad, house salad, meatballs, fried calamari, and fried mozzarella. Among the entrees are chicken Parmesan, chicken piccata, chicken Marsala, spicy rigatoni, fusilli Bolognese, and spaghetti and meatballs. Deserts are a mini cannoli plate or gelato in a chocolate cup.

New this year is Artie’s in the Hamptons, which is not a separate space but a separate menu that will be available during dinner hours and late night at the bar. Joe Isidori, the chef owner, was a three-time winner of Food Network’s Burger Bash, and Artie’s will feature burgers, fries, Korean barbecue wings, margaritas, and more.

Artists’ Table

Artists’ Table is the Watermill Center’s year-round brunch and dinner series that includes presentations by resident artists and a chef-prepared meal with locally sourced ingredients.

On Saturday, starting at noon, Cassiel Gaube, the center’s Dance Reflections Fellow by Van Cleef & Arpels, will perform an excerpt from “Moteur,” a solo work in progress, and, along with an artist collaborator, will present his project of algorithmic choreography.

The performance will be followed by a meal created by Jason Weiner, the chef and co-owner of Almond restaurant and L&W Market in Bridgehampton.

Tickets are $125 and available from eventbrite.com.

Small Plates

The Blue Parrot in East Hampton will open for the season Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
