This year for Martin Luther King's Birthday, celebrated on Monday, Calvary Baptist Church will live-stream its service on YouTube, beginning at 1 p.m.

East Hampton High's bowling team was to have had a match under its belt, and the boys swimming team was to have made its debut (though with no spectators) today at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter, but the coronavirus pandemic put the kibosh on that.

New York State has opened Covid-19 vaccinations this week to anyone 65 or older and the immunocompromised, members of police and fire departments, health workers at outpatient facilities including private medical and dental practices, teachers and school staff, child care workers, transit workers, and grocery store workers who interact with the public.

Hyatt Mannix and Matthew Thomas Powers had planned to marry at the bride's parents' house on Bluff Road in Amagansett, but the pandemic forced a change of plans. They decided instead to have a very small outdoor wedding on Dec. 30 in Jackson, Wyo., near where they live, with the stunning vistas of the Grand Tetons as a backdrop. The Rev. Alison Coplan officiated, and a reception followed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jackson Hole.

The bride is the daughter of Gretchen and John B. Mannix. The groom's parents are Joyce and Jerry Powers of Paxton, Mass.

Since I started in my office on Shelter Island, I have had seven patients die. Having never started an essentially new primary care practice location before, I have no idea how that number compares. I just know that, in the context of a year full of more suffering and death among those for whom I am privileged to care for, those seven names stand out.  

East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larsen scrapped a proposal to charge for additional hours of parking on the streets of the commercial district and in the Reutershan and Schenck parking lots, and is now proposing to charge non-village residents for each hour of parking in the lots, and to forgo allowing any additional hours for street parking.

In 1804, Samuel Schellinger, an Amagansett craftsman, began constructing the Pantigo Windmill for Huntting Miller. When Miller died he left the mill to his grandson William Hedges.

East Hampton Town police arrested a West Babylon man who they said raced away from the scene of an accident in Amagansett on Wednesday in which a 36-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking her two children in a stroller on the side of Montauk Highway.
