A former employee of the Sag Harbor 7-Eleven was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with stealing $1,085 from the store’s cash register. The theft occurred on Aug. 10 and was followed by a month-long investigation.

Sag Harbor police said Bernard T. Cooks of Bridgehampton, 33, had been captured on video taking bills from the register, stuffing them into a plastic bag, and tossing the bag into the garbage. He is said to have done this twice. He later went to the garbage and removed the money, according to police.

A student from the island of Jamaica who was working at the Hermitage Resort on Napeague this summer was arrested last Thursday for allegedly stealing the identity of a fellow worker and then attempting to transfer almost $4,000 from his PayPal account.

An early-morning dispute on Aug. 25 between a cab driver and his boss became heated when the cabby’s passengers joined in. Police arrived and were told that the employer was “bullying” his driver. A 19-year-old Springs resident whom an East Hampton Town police officer subdued with a Taser early Monday morning, is facing multiple charges, including the felony assault of a police officer.
