Sent Unwelcome Emails

A Montauk man, Gregg S. Weinstein, was charged Friday with misdemeanor criminal contempt in the second degree for allegedly sending emails he was not supposed to.

Mr. Weinstein, 54, was arrested for disobeying a court order handed down in July by Justice Steven Tekulsky, East Hampton Town police said. Between Oct. 14 and Oct. 22, he reportedly sent email messages to his former wife, who holds an order of protection against him valid through July 22, 2020.

It was unclear how police found out about the communication. Mr. Weinstein was arraigned before Justice Tekulsky, who released him on his own recognizance.  He will appear in court at a future date.

In other police news, a woman was arrested in Sag Harbor Village for taking a bottle of liquor that was not hers. Christine Fromentin, 64, of Westhampton, stole a bottle of Absolut vodka from the Sag Harbor Liquor Store on Oct. 22, police said.

Ms. Fromentin charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor; the liquor was worth under $40. She was released on her own recognizance and will appear in village justice court at a later date.
