Hike Water Quality Grants?

The East Hampton Town Board will soon issue a request for applications for water quality improvement awards, based on a recommendation from its water quality technical advisory committee.

Geraldine Boxer died at home in East Hampton last Thursday after receiving an unexpected diagnosis of Stage 4 esophageal cancer in mid-December.

Cynthia Leigh Silverman, a longtime summer resident of Amagansett who was studying for a joint degree in law and international affairs at the City University of New York, died in New York City on Dec. 14. She was 29.

A 64-year-old man told police he was getting out of the ocean near the first jetty on Georgia Beach at about 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 8, when a medium-size black-and-white dog aggressively chased him.

New Peconic Bay Medical Facility Opens

Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead celebrated the completion of its new $67.8 million facility on Friday. 

The Corey Critical Care Pavilion and Kanas Regional Heart Center on Roa­noke Avenue at the hospital offers more lifesaving services on the East End, according to officials with Northwell Health, which Peconic Bay Medical Center joined in 2016.

Arrest Made in Connection With Riverhead Death

Suffolk County Police homicide detectives arrested a man they said punched Wayne Sapiane in the head in Riverhead on Jan. 2.  Mr. Sapiane, who was 65, later died.
