The Church in Sag Harbor will host workshops devoted to breaking, a style of street dance that evolved from the hip-hop movement of the early '70s, and a concert of contemporary music inspired by a painting by April Gornik, the venue's co-founder.

On Sunday, Ivan (Heat Rock) Cofield, who premiered his style at The Church in January, will lead introductory courses on the fundamental movements, styles, and ideas behind breaking, and talk about its history. Workshops for ages 8 to 15 will begin at 11 a.m.; for ages 16 and up, at 1 p.m. The talk, which is free with workshop registration, will be at noon.

The youth session is $20; the adult session is $40.

The Montage Music Society, which is dedicated to music inspired by contemporary art, will present "Light Bending the World," a composition by Niles Luther based on Ms. Gornik's painting of the same name, next Thursday at 7 p.m.

The work is a "fusion of Gornik's reimagined observable reality with the idioms of contemporary music," says The Church. Mr. Luther, a cellist, will be joined by Debra Ayers, a pianist, and Laurie Carney, a violinist. A discussion  with the musicians and Ms. Gornik will follow the performance.

Tickets are $30; $25 for members, $10 for students, and $15 for a livestream. Livestream ticket holders will receive an email to access the program.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
