The Corner, a new restaurant set to take the place of the Corner Bar in Sag Harbor, will not open this summer as planned and may not open at all.

The space has been leased since last winter by Kelly and John Piccinnini, owners of the Clam Bar on Napeague.

When reached by phone Friday morning, Ms. Piccinnini wouldn't comment on the restaurant's status. "I really can't speak on it," she said. She referred questions to her public relations firm, WordHampton, whose president, Nicole Castillo, also would not comment.

"Unfortunately, I have no information to share. Everything is still in flux," she said. "They are confident they should have something to share before Labor Day, but they're not legally able to tell me anything."

The Piccinninis began renovations after the Corner Bar closed in February. Word was the Corner would be open by July 4. That date passed, but on July 9 the Corner's imminent opening was celebrated at a Sag Harbor Partnership event for the Firehouse Museum at Kidd Squid Brewing Company, with the Corner even providing some of the food served to guests. Shortly after that came the announcement that the Corner would open on Aug. 7, following a "friends and family" soft opening at the end of July. Plans changed again.

An Instagram post just ahead of the opening confirmed it would be delayed. "We have had an incredible couple of days welcoming friends and family into The Corner, and we're so grateful for everyone's feedback, encouragement, and excitement," read the post. "After putting our team, systems, and menu through the first real test, we've decided to take a few more days to fine-tune the details before opening our doors."

On Friday morning, a real estate agent who spoke off the record hinted that a complex partnership situation may be responsible for the change of plans. The agent said that the space had been fully renovated, is in "turn-key" condition, and "is very sought after. . . . Who knows? It could be open by this fall. A new lessee would need to get their own liquor license though, and that could delay things."
