Lee Freeman at Rental

“Things I Forgot the Name Of,” work by Lee Freeman, is at Rental Gallery in East Hampton through Jan. 5. Mr. Freeman, who lives and works in New York City, is showing objects that use both static form and light — cast, thrown, or glowing — as material.

In Mr. Freeman’s work, common tools and objects fail to fulfill their usual purpose but highlight themselves as they become carriers or containers of light. In one piece, a repeating lampshade that suggests Brancusi’s “Endless Column,” a fluorescent bulb has been permanently cast into its concrete base. Car mirrors have been converted into sconces so they throw light through an iridescent filter, while glowing colored buckets hang from the ceiling at different heights.

Celebrating Hanukkah

Ezra Gallery of the Hamptons at the Center for Jewish Life in Sag Harbor will open “Light,” a group exhibition organized by Kimberly Goff, with a Hanukkah party and reception on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The show will include work by Stephanie Brody-Lederman, Robert Feinland, Ellen Frank, Erling Hope, Edward Joseph, Nathan Slate Joseph, Michael Knigin, Eleanora Kupencow, Zero Mostel, Larry Rivers, and Susan Schwalb. It will continue through Jan. 26.

Keyes Art Here and There

Keyes Art in Sag Harbor is showing “Deck the Walls,” work by Willem de Kooning, David Slivka, Nathan Slate Joseph, Lester Johnson, Claude Lawrence, and others, through January.

The gallery has also organized “Natural Abstractions IV,” a pop-up exhibition of mixed-media works on canvas by Bill Claps, at 211 McGuiness Boulevard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Mr. Claps’s “Natural Abstractions” are contemporary interpretations of nature motifs used by generations of artists. He begins each work with photographs that are processed digitally and printed in black and white before he applies paint and a layer of gold foil. The show will run through Jan. 20.
