ARF Marks Its 50th Year at Bow Wow Meow Ball

Thu, 08/15/2024 - 13:44

The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons will host its annual Bow Wow Meow Ball on Saturday to commemorate its 50th anniversary with a night of cocktails, dinner, and dancing the proceeds of which support ARF’s work to help animals in need.

The event will honor ARF’s founders, Barbara Hotchkiss Posener, Sony Schotland, and Dorothy Wahl, who started rescuing summer residents’ abandoned pets at the end of the season in 1974. Since then the organization has provided “tens of thousands of cats and dogs . . . compassion, food, shelter, medical care, training, and — ultimately — their forever homes with new families,” according to ARF.

The Chantecaille family, known for Chantecaille Makeup and Skincare, will also be recognized with the Champion of Animals Award, for their three generations of donating and regular volunteering at ARF, in addition to their dedication to global animal welfare.

The ball will take place at the William P. Rayner Training Center on Daniel’s Hole Road in Wainscott, beginning with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 in the garden tent, followed by dinner in the training center by Olivier Cheng Catering at 8 p.m. Chuck Scarborough will be the evening’s M.C., and there will be dancing to the Peter Duchin Orchestra, and a parade of animals.

A live and silent auction will also be part of the festivities, with items such as a courtside box at the U.S. Open, second-row seats at a New York Knicks home game, golf at the Maidstone Club, and a private dinner at the Madoo Conservancy. And of course, there will be ARF cats and dogs available for adoption.

Tickets start at $1,250 and can be purchased at give.arfhamptons.org/bowwow or by contacting Krissy Feleppa at 631-537-0400 extension 220, [email protected]. J.A.

Traveling Vietnam Memorial to Visit Amagansett

“Getting to the wall is one of the steps in the healing process for combat vets from Vietnam. A lot of guys have survivor’s guilt. Maybe they missed a patrol and lost a bunch of buddies. Then there are family members who bring their kids and grandkids,” said Doc Russo, who travels around the country with a 300-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington, D.C.
