Sat, 07/18/2026 - 16:33

Edward Garbowski, a 62-year-old East Hampton Town resident, was found dead in Three Mile Harbor on Friday evening. Foul play was not suspected.

According to an East Hampton Town Police press release, he was found by people who had been clamming in the vicinity. His body was on a grassy island off Folkstone Drive in Springs.

Police said Mr. Garbowski had gear with him that suggested he, too, had been harvesting shellfish. A preliminary investigation suggested "the individual may have suffered a medical emergency prior to his death."

"The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, in conjunction with the East Hampton Town Police Department Detective Division, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Garbowski's death," read the press release. "The cause and manner of death remain pending the Medical Examiner's report."

Anyone with information was asked to call the police department's non-emergency number at 631-537-7575.
