Four people were hospitalized last week after two cars collided on Hand’s Creek Road in East Hampton.
Town police said Egma Norma Cayambi Morales, 47, of East Hampton, fell asleep at the wheel of her Toyota sedan on the afternoon of Aug. 17. The car swerved into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into a Honda sedan driven by Clara Cruz Lopez, 45, of Sag Harbor.
Ms. Lopez, who was headed south near Spread Oak Lane at the time, told police she’d attempted to get out of the way, but the collision was unavoidable. She and her two passengers all sustained injuries. Mayra Sandoval, 34, who was sitting in front, hurt her shoulder, Jose Uziel Cruz, 27, who was in the rear of the car, complained of lower back pain. Ms. Cruz Lopez told police she had pain in her right leg.
Ms. Cayambi Morales had chest and leg injuries.
All were taken, by three ambulances, to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital to be treated. Each of the cars had substantial damage and both were towed from the scene.
