East Hampton Town police charged a Springs man with felony-level driving while intoxicated on Aug. 22 after he had turned into a Pantigo Road parking lot at 2:15 that morning.
Juan C. Mancilla, 36, was heading west on Pantigo Road when police noticed that a taillight was out on his car. Then, when he started to turn into the parking lot at Chen’s Garden, he did not signal, they said, but instead switched on his four-way flashers.
Mr. Mancilla was unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the police report. He was charged with the upgraded felony because he had a previous D.W.I. conviction in 2024. He was additionally charged with driving a vehicle not equipped with an interlock alcohol-detection device, which he was ordered to install after his 2024 conviction, and second-degree driving without a license, both misdemeanors.
Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance later that morning.
