A Montauk woman was charged with a felony last week following a traffic stop in Amagansett.

According to the police report, at around 3:30 a.m. on July 6, near the Cranberry Hole Road intersection with Montauk Highway, an officer stopped a gray BMW driven by Laura E. McMullan, 40, for “multiple traffic violations.”

Charged with several misdemeanors, she was taken to police headquarters in Wainscott, where a search of her purse allegedly uncovered two clear plastic bags containing a white powdery substance that later tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

Ms. McMullan appeared in court later that morning before East Hampton Town Justice David Filer, charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. She was released with an order to return to court on Wednesday.
