The Stop & Shop in East Hampton Village was evacuated late Friday morning after a refrigerant leak was detected inside the supermarket.

The East Hampton Fire Department and emergency medical service personnel responded to the scene just after 11:30 a.m., and the store was quickly evacuated. Entrances to the parking lot were blocked off.

Apparently a freon leak came from a mechanical room on the second floor.

Firefighters told bystanders to stay clear as the inside of the store was vented into the parking lot. All Fire Department units were back in service by 2:50 p.m. The time of the store's reopening was not clear as of press time.
