Felony Charges in Three Arrests

Thu, 07/24/2025 - 11:07

East Hampton Town police made three late-night arrests last week, all of them ending in felony charges.

Damien Roman of East Hampton, 51, was arrested near midnight on Friday outside Rosie’s restaurant on Amagansett’s Main Street, charged with assault in the second degree with intent to cause injury by means of a deadly weapon.

Police reported he had struck another man in the face with a glass, leaving a deep cut that caused bleeding and “disfigurement.” The victim was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital’s new emergency building on Pantigo Road, East Hampton, for treatment, while Mr. Roman was held for the rest of the night at town police headquarters in Wainscott. He appeared in court the next morning before Justice David Filer, who released him on his own recognizance with a return court date of Aug. 27.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday, Reyes Hernandez Cruz of Riverhead, 31, was charged with possession of a forged instrument in the second degree after police spotted him driving on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road in East Hampton with a fraudulent New York State “In-Transit” paper license plate displayed on the front bumper of his Nissan S.U.V. The vehicle was previously registered with the state, according to police, who said Mr. Cruz had “orally admitted” to purchasing the forged plates online. He was processed at headquarters later that morning and arraigned the next day before Justice Filer, who released him on his own recognizance. He too will be back in court on Aug. 27.

Michael Camacho-Merino of East Hampton, 24, was charged on the night of July 15 with criminal possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop on Accabonac Road near Pantigo Road. He was driving a black Chrysler sedan without headlights and swerving across lane lines, according to East Hampton Village police, who allegedly discovered multiple clear plastic bags containing a white powdery substance in the handle of the car’s driver’s-side door. A further search of the car reportedly turned up $2,000 in cash and 12 additional small bags of the substance, which tested positive for cocaine.

Mr. Camacho-Merino was held overnight at village headquarters on Cedar Street and arraigned in the morning before Justice Steven Tekulsky, who released him on his own recognizance with a return date of Aug. 13.
