Two S.U.V.s, one a Hyundai and the other a Mercedes, were badly damaged in a collision at the intersection of Stephen Hand’s Path and Potters Lane, off Huckleberry Lane in East Hampton, on Friday morning.

Rosa Jarama Tacuri of East Hampton, 54, had just turned right from the lane onto Stephen Hand’s Path when, she told East Hampton Town police, she saw the Mercedes, with Patrick Bosco Egeonu of New York City, 47, driving directly toward her, against the flow of traffic. She was unable to avoid it, she said, and the Mercedes struck the Hyundai head-on before colliding with a tree on the side of the road, where it came to a stop.

Mr. Egeonu said he did not remember what happened and only “came to” after striking the tree, leading the responding officer to suspect he had experienced a medical episode. He complained of neck pain; Ms. Jarama Tacuri reported pain in her forearm. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and Joe’s Towing of East Hampton collected both S.U.V.s.

The night before, also in East Hampton, a Hyundai struck a Chevrolet in front of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home on Pantigo Road.

Quinton Gustave Woelk of Copiague, 29, the driver of the westbound Hyundai, told police he’d “briefly” taken his eyes off the road and driven into the back of the Chevy, causing damage to the front of his own car. Harris A. Mogel of Bellmore, 60, said he’d been stopped in traffic when the Hyundai rear-ended him.

Mr. Mogel’s passenger, described only as a 61-year-old female, reported whiplash as a result of the impact but refused medical attention. Mr. Woelk’s Hyundai was towed from the scene by Rapid Recovery.
