Felony Drug Possession Charged

Thu, 05/08/2025 - 09:27

East Hampton Village police were investigating an incident that occurred elsewhere on the evening of April 29 when they spotted Richard Daunt of Montauk, 62, sitting in his car in a village parking lot.

The police report was heavily redacted, but Mr. Daunt may have been the man they were looking for. In any event, he was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

Following his arrest, officers searched his car and allegedly found a plastic bag containing 17 individual smaller bags each with a white powdery substance inside, weighing approximately 18.1 grams. According to a multi-drug test, the substance tested positive for cocaine.

Mr. Daunt faces four charges including two class-B felonies, one for possessing a narcotic drug with intent to sell, the other for possessing a half-ounce or more of a narcotic drug. He was also charged with misdemeanor drunken driving and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned the next morning by Town Justice David Filer, who, according to the Justice Court record, released him “on monetary conditions.” He is due back in court on May 28.
