Two Accidents With Injuries

Thu, 12/05/2024 - 10:39

A Montauk woman was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Saturday afternoon following an accident near Camp Hero Road in Montauk.

Alisa Atias, 64, was eastbound in a 2022 Jeep when she swerved off the highway through oncoming traffic, winding up in the woods on the opposite side of the road. Witnesses said she was “shaking uncontrollably in a seizure-like movement,” and had lost consciousness.

Ms. Atias was conscious by the time East Hampton Town police arrived, but not aware of her surroundings. She was taken to the hospital by a Montauk ambulance. The Jeep was towed by Marshall and Sons.

On the evening of Nov. 25, in a separate incident on Springs-Fireplace Road in East Hampton, another local woman was injured.

Kiara Poncebarahona of East Hampton, 24, who was driving a 2010 Kia sedan, told police that a 2024 Tesla had stopped short in front of her, resulting in a rear-end collision.

The Tesla driver, Roman Terentyev, 34, also of East Hampton, said he’d been forced to hit the brakes when a car in front of his made an unexpected turn. He provided camera footage to the responding officer.

Ms. Poncebarahona was taken to the hospital by ambulance after complaining of pain in her head, apparently the result of whiplash. Both cars were towed to Rapid Recovery in Hampton Bays.
