A Newark woman hadn't heard from her fiancé, a Morris Park Lane resident, in over a week, she told town police Friday evening, adding that it was not like him not to call her. Officers spoke with a woman who lives at the same address, who initially said she hadn't spoken to the man in about a month, but called back soon after, saying he'd just called her from a different number and explained that he'd broken his phone but was okay.
A stranger was looking into her bathroom window early Saturday morning, an Oyster Pond woman told police, who searched her house both inside and out without finding anyone. She was advised to keep the windows and doors of her house and cars locked.
A report of "a suspicious subject sitting in the woods" led officers to a man seated on a large rock near the intersection of Hand's Creek Road and Atlantic Street. He told them he works as a home health care aide nearby, frequently takes walks in the area, and likes to take breaks on the rock. A background check revealed no outstanding warrants, and the man was left to finish his walk.

A man found sleeping on the grounds of the L.V.I.S. building last Thursday evening became agitated when he was awakened, and refused to leave, a caller told police, who responded to find that he'd moved over to the Reutershan parking lot. Early the next morning, a man of the same description was found asleep in Most Holy Trinity Church. He told police he was just looking for a place to stay while waiting for the next westbound train. He was escorted off the church grounds without incident.
An employee of a Main Street business reported finding a wallet on the ground in the alleyway next to the Lululemon store Sunday morning. Police picked up the wallet and contacted its owner, who went to retrieve it from headquarters and said that $300 was missing. Police spoke again with the employee, who said she hadn't seen any cash in the wallet. Its owner did not wish to pursue the matter.
His son's mountain bike was stolen from Main Beach last weekend, a Lily Pond Lane man told police on Friday, adding that the boy had left it unlocked overnight and returned on Sunday morning to find it gone. Police reviewed the evening's security footage and observed a man drive up in a Ford Explorer around 2:30 a.m., take the bike from a rack, and load it into his vehicle before driving away. Through the license plate, they tracked down the driver, who told them he'd noticed a Khanh Sports sticker on the bike, saw it had been left unlocked, assumed it was a rental, and took it back to the store, which confirmed his story. The father went to Khanh and picked up the undamaged bike.

The joke-teller, from Scarsdale, N.Y., told police the man had been there with his children, and that the family had gone back to Gurney's, where they were staying. Officers contacted the man, who refused to be interviewed.

A West Water Street woman walked into village police headquarters on Aug. 11 with a "very noticeable large welt on her forehead," along with her husband, whose face was "red and swollen," to report that their roommate had punched them both in the face after engaging in an irate argument with the husband. Her vision had blurred, she said; she had a severe headache, and her ear was bleeding where it was cut by an earring. The couple were treated at the station by ambulance staff, but refused transportation to the hospital, stating that they would not be able to afford the bill. The roommate was arrested at the apartment early that evening, charged with two counts of assault, and scheduled for arraignment this week.
That same night, a Main Street woman reported having just received a call from her daughter, who was home alone with their housekeeper, informing her that she'd heard a scream from outside and could not find the housekeeper anywhere. The woman arrived back at their house as police were pulling up. They found the daughter in good health and the housekeeper doing laundry in the basement.
