Desperate for the T-Shirt

A 75-year-old New York City woman was arrested by East Hampton Village police on Tuesday afternoon and charged with assault in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, after police identified her as the person who they said had “grabbed” and “bitten” the arm of a 7-year-old child while trying to retrieve a T-shirt tossed from the pavilion balcony during an Aug. 12 concert at Main Beach.

The woman had been “kicking and punching kids” while trying to snag a shirt, the child’s parents told police. They reported the incident that night. Officers were not able to locate the woman on Main Beach during the concert, despite using a drone for help. The concert, which last week featured the ‘80s tribute band Rubix Kube, was part of a weekly series that typically draws a large crowd. Police reviewed security footage from the Main Beach pavilion that night, which reportedly captured the incident, and also obtained a photograph of the woman taken at the concert by another attendee. Someone recognized her from the photograph and police were able to locate her.

The woman was processed at village police headquarters on Tuesday afternoon and released with a ticket to appear in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Sept. 3
