Head-On Collision on Route 27

Thu, 11/21/2024 - 12:09

A 2-year-old was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital following a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on State Route 27 near Upland Road in Montauk.

The driver, Yichin Shih of Mineola, 37, was westbound on the highway in a 2022 four-door sedan with three passengers, when, according to East Hampton Town police, a 2014 Acura driven by V.A. Ayavacatacuri of East Hampton, 22, crossed the double yellow line and collided with her vehicle.

Ms. Ayavacatacuri was extricated from the Acura by the Montauk Fire Department. She complained of pain in her leg and was taken by ambulance to the hospital along with the 2-year-old, who told ambulance personnel that her whole body hurt.

Both cars were totaled and towed away by Marshall and Sons.

On Sunday, again in Montauk, police found George Watson’s 2007 Porsche stopped near Flamingo Avenue and Farragut Road with Mr. Watson, 80, inside. The report was redacted, but police suspected that Mr. Watson, the longtime owner of the hamlet’s Dock bar and restaurant, had had a stroke. When they arrived, he had “a blank stare and was not speaking.”

After he was able to speak, Mr. Watson told police he’d been driving south when he began to feel unwell. The next thing he remembered was talking with the officers. He was taken to Southampton Hospital for examination and treatment.
