Customers Were Underage

Thu, 08/04/2022 - 08:17

A mini-sweep of underage alcohol sales at Montauk establishments on Saturday yielded misdemeanor charges for employees of two popular downtown watering holes.

Catherine Ann Lawry of Montauk, 23, was working at the Shagwong around 5:15 p.m. when she allegedly served a Corona and a High Noon hard seltzer to an underage person who did not have identification. About an hour later, at the Atlantikos Oceanfront Bar and Grill, which is attached to the Royal Atlantic, Omar L. Brown, 31, reportedly sold two cans of White Claw hard seltzer to a person under the age of 21 who also did not present ID. Both Ms. Lawry and Mr. Brown were charged with prohibited sale of alcohol and will appear in East Hampton Town Justice Court at a future date.

In a case dating back to November 2019, Julia Hentschel of Mount Kisco, N.Y., 26, turned herself in to East Hampton Village Police on July 27 to answer felony grand larceny charges stemming from a series of alleged thefts at White's Pharmacy. She was to be arraigned in Justice Court this morning.

It Was S.U.V. on S.U.V.

On June 23, a Subaru S.U.V. rear-ended a Toyota S.U.V. at Carl Fisher Plaza in Montauk. That evening, two other S.U.V.s collided in Wainscott and had to be towed away. And more news of the roads.

Early Sunday morning, it looked as if a small tornado had torn through the Montauk Green and the Montauk Artists Association Art Show. Instead, East Hampton Town police say the destruction — which wiped out the inventory of some participating artists — was caused by a drunken driver.
