East Hampton

At Barcelona Neck on May 23, an East Hampton Town harbormaster spotted Cristian Pizarro-Suconota fishing, and asked to see his license. He did not have one, and was given a ticket.

Someone driving a black Mercedes-Benz S.U.V. has stolen a total of 16 dozen eggs from Iacono Farm on Long Lane. Amanda Iacono told police that the thief came twice, most recently on Friday. The total value of eggs stolen is $114.

Someone couldn’t negotiate a turn onto Cedar Street on Friday night and hit the berm, fence, and ultimately the office building at Saskas Surveyor Company. The driver fled, leaving behind parts from a red Ford Mustang.

East Hampton Village

A man left his luggage at the Jitney stop in front of the Palm close to midnight on May 20, and returned to find it gone. He claims the clothing inside plus the luggage was worth over $5,000. A Jitney employee spoke with passengers but did not find the luggage.

While an officer was on routine school patrol May 23, the middle school’s gym coaches reported a man urinating and drinking beer in Herrick Park. The officer found the man sitting on a bench by the baseball field, drinking a Corona. He was issued a summons for having an open container of alcohol in public.

That night, again in Herrick Park, the same officer found graffiti in the men’s and women’s bathrooms. The graffiti was of unknown words written in red and white ink. The next day, another officer walked around the park and found several similar tags on the playground equipment, a garbage can, and the gazebo.

The Air National Guard was training off Main Beach on the night of May 24, causing a Lily Pond Lane resident to call the police about flares.

An Apaquogue Road resident concerned about an injured gosling reported it to police on May 25. An officer was able to reunite the gosling with its nearby family.

A Sag Harbor man attempting to board a Suffolk Transit Bus on May 25 was not allowed access by the driver, who shut the door on him, striking his shoulder. The man told police he had some history with the driver, and wanted the incident documented. Police advised him to take a different bus until he resolves the issue with the bus company.

A woman called police on Friday morning after her 3-year-old disappeared. Officers found the child quickly, inside Starbucks.

Montauk

An officer was at 7-Eleven in Montauk during the early morning hours of May 27, when he spotted a man asleep in his Toyota Tacoma outside, with the car radio blaring. The officer determined that the man was “very drunk,” but because the car was not running, he was not committing a crime. An Uber was called to take him home.

Springs

Joseph Hall went to his Norfolk Drive home on May 10 to clean it, and found three juveniles inside. He told them if they came back, he’d have them arrested. When he returned on May 15, he found an unknown pair of glasses inside, the oil and water turned on, and “multiple items seemed to be moved around the house.” Mr. Hall wanted to document the incident and told the police he’d press charges if the youths returned.

East Hampton Ambulance Department Gets County Nod

The Suffolk County Regional Emergency Services Council voted on March 12 to expand the operating territory of the East Hampton Village Ambulance Department to include the Northwest Fire Protection District and the East Hampton Water Supply Area. This came after a contentious public hearing at LTV Studios on Feb. 16.

A 37-year-old Montauk man attempted to make a fire in a barrel at the Montauk Skate Park to "grill some burgers while he and friends skated" on the afternoon of March 13. Someone called the police, who told the man it was against the rules. He apologized and put the fire out.

Policing East Hampton in 2023: A Look at the Statistics

In 2023, for 911 calls classified as "highest priority," the East Hampton Town Police Department's average response time was 5 minutes, 38 seconds. Officers made 163 drunken-driving arrests, assisted on 2,530 medical calls and nearly 1,800 fire-related emergencies, and logged 12 "use of force" incidents over the 12-month period. Those were just a few of the statistics presented by Chief Michael Sarlo to the East Hampton Town Board last week, capping off a year of protecting 70 square miles from Wainscott to Montauk.

Sexual Assault Investigation

A 29-year-old East Hampton woman went to police headquarters on March 4 to report being the victim of sexual assault, stemming from an incident on Feb. 23 at a house in town.
