What with 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts forecast for Saturday, and wind chills potentially reaching 25 degrees below zero, the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce has canceled the popular fireworks show that was to take place Saturday evening at 5:30 as part of its Harborfrost celebration.

It's the 15th anniversary of the midwinter freeze fest, which always brings solid crowds to the village despite the cold.

"We are disappointed to announce that the 2026 Harborfrost fireworks show has been canceled," a Grucci spokesman said in a release. "Due to unusually high winds forecasted for tomorrow evening at the time of the fireworks performance," the village fire marshal, Grucci, and the chamber "have determined that a cancellation is necessary to ensure the safety of our spectators and surrounding properties. While there is no reschedule date for this year, we thank you for your understanding and eagerly look forward to the return of the fireworks for Harborfrost 2027."

Other events at Long Wharf were also impacted: A fire dancing show and a hot chocolate stand that was to be hosted by the Sag Harbor Boy Scout Troop were also put on ice.

The rest of Harborfrost will continue as scheduled. A full rundown can be found at sagharborchamber.com.
