Jerdine Simpson of Sag Harbor, 35, got into a fight on Saturday night near Chen’s Garden in East Hampton, just after dinner. According to East Hampton Town police, Mr. Simpson brandished a weapon during the altercation and punched a victim multiple times in the face, causing pain and bleeding and necessitating medical attention.

It was unclear from the report what caused the fight, but police charged Mr. Simpson with assault second-degree, a felony, for alleged intent to cause physical injury with a weapon.

He was held at police headquarters overnight for a morning arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court before Justice Lisa R. Rana, who released him on his own recognizance to await another court appearance on May 12.
