More Serious Charge Added

Thu, 05/28/2026 - 08:16

After charging a Springs man with misdemeanor drunken driving on Sunday, East Hampton Town police added a more serious drug charge.

At 9:30 that night, having been alerted by the Flock system, which monitors license plates, that Leonel Martinez-Biznay, 23, driving a car with a suspended registration, police spotted him crossing the solid lines on Springs-Fireplace Road in Springs and pulled him over.

He was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, according to the report. He was charged with D.W.I. and taken to police headquarters in Wainscott, and while police were processing him, they found a “white powdery substance” in a small plastic bag in his wallet.

The substance later tested positive for cocaine; the bag contained just under a gram. He was then additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a felony.

Town Justice Steven Tekulsky released Mr. Martinez-Biznay on his own recognizance the following day, with a future date to return to Justice Court.
