One Took Off, Another Stayed

A hit-and-run incident on Collins Avenue in East Hampton, a short street that connects Accabonac Road to North Main Street, was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Aug. 18.

East Hampton Town police said a gray car that may have been a Toyota rear-ended a Kia suburban being driven by Margaret Calamita, 56, of Hampton Bays. The driver took off and was not found. The Kia sustained only minor damage and did not need to be towed.

Another accident occurred Friday morning on eastbound Pantigo Road near Spring Close Highway in East Hampton. Police said Kevin A. Garcia of East Hampton, 28, rear-ended a pickup truck that had stopped short in front of him. Mr. Garcia stayed at the scene, but the truck driver did not. Fireplace Auto towed the 2008 GMC van that Mr. Garcia had been driving, which was registered to another person.

Last week in Montauk, a Pennsylvania couple called police to complain that they’d been barred from taking their service dog into Duryea’s restaurant. The manager told them they were welcome to get takeout and eat at a picnic area across the street.
