Update: Homeless Man Found Dead in Montauk

Update, July 22, 11:30 a.m.: Police have identified the man who was found dead inside a storage container Saturday as Raymond Marisette, 69. He had been using a container in a parking lot at Gosman's Dock on West Lake Drive as a shelter, according to Lt. Greg Schaefer. He was found at 9:45 a.m. 

Mr. Marisette, whose nickname was Cheech, was well known around Montauk Harbor. He appeared in a short fictional film by Anthony Dooley, made five years ago when Mr. Marisette was living in an abandoned refrigerator shack in the woods in Montauk.

Police said in a press release on Sunday that the death does not appear to be suspicious, and no foul play is suspected, but anyone with information regarding the investigation has been urged to call police at 631-537-7575.

Originally, July 21, 4:37 p.m.: East Hampton Town police said a man was found dead in a shed in a Gosman's Dock parking lot in Montauk on Saturday morning. The death did not appear to be suspicious, Lt. Greg Schaefer said. 

The man, whom police declined to identify, was found inside what Lieutenant Schaefer referred to as a storage shed where he had been living. Friends went to check on him and found him dead on Saturday around 10 a.m. 

Police vehicles were seen near a small shipping container in the southwest corner of a parking lot off West Lake Drive. 

The Suffolk County medical examiner's office is investigating.
