Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:33

An East Hampton man was arrested last week about a month after police said he tackled and choked a former girlfriend on the sidewalk in Montauk.

Alan R. Marcelino, 24, allegedly followed his former girlfriend, whose name was not released, out of the Memory Motel and tackled her to the ground on South Elmwood Avenue on Aug. 13 at about 2:30 a.m., Town Police Detective Sgt. Dan Toia said. Mr. Marcelino allegedly choked the woman, causing pain, difficulty breathing, noticeable redness, and scratches on her neck, the criminal complaint said. He also damaged an iPhone 8 Plus worth $856 by throwing it to the ground, police said.

Mr. Marcelino turned himself in to police on Saturday and was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony, criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation. He was held overnight for arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court. Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on $250 bail.

On Sept. 8, an East Hampton man who would have been charged with a simple violation for allegedly having a small amount of marijuana on him ended up being held overnight on a misdemeanor charge after police said he resisted arrest.

Alexander R. Ramos, 26, allegedly clenched his fists and turned toward Officer Andrea M. Kess in an aggressive manner after being told at about 10:15 p.m. that he was being placed under arrest, the criminal complaint said. He struggled with Officer Kess, “swinging his arms, tensing up, and pushing back” on her before being subdued and handcuffed, the complaint said.

Mr. Ramos had been in a group of five people who were seen around a truck in the parking lot of Whalebone Village, a housing complex in East Hampton. An officer in the area on an animal complaint saw the group smoking and knew that there had been community complaints about people smoking marijuana in the area, Detective Toia said. Officer Kess said that when she approached the group, she smelled marijuana and spotted a plastic bag sticking out of Mr. Ramos’s pocket. The bag contained a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana.

Mr. Ramos was arraigned on resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana on Sept. 7. He was released on his own recognizance.

Over in Sag Harbor, Nicolas G. Reisini, 32, was picked up on several charges, including drug possession, on Sunday. According to the report, he got a police officer’s attention when he failed to stop in a 2014 Cadillac CTS on Jermain Avenue at the intersection of Madison Street at 12:53 a.m. He was pulled over on Brick Kiln Road. When the officer ran his license, he found that Mr. Reisini’s driving privileges had been suspended or revoked twice.

Police said there was a strong odor of marijuana  inside the car, and when asked if he had any, Mr. Reisini pulled a plastic container and a blue pipe out of the center console. He also produced a gray metal smoking device that contained concentrated cannabis oil. All tested positive for marijuana.

Mr. Reisini was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, also a misdemeanor, and several violations, including unlawful possession of marijuana. Posting $100 bail, he was released and is due in court on Oct. 26.

Police also released information this week on the July 22 arrest at about 9:35 p.m. of Mel McCormack, 39, of Long Island City. He was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor, Earlier that evening, according to police, he stole some items from the bar at the 668 Gig Shack in Montauk, including a Calvin Klein bag and an iPhone 7 belonging to Arden Gardell-Gross. The bag was the property of Debra Block Goldman, and it held her wallet with $189 cash, a Flip video camera, two EpiPens, headphones, sunglasses, makeup, and a number of credit cards. Police said the combined value was $1,114. Mr. McCormack was released on $1,000 bail.
