A Detective Resigns in Sag Harbor

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:39

A Sag Harbor Village police detective who had been suspended last year resigned from his post on Friday.

Jeffrey Proctor was brought up on disciplinary charges in March 2016 and has not worked since. He was suspended for 30 days without pay and then put on administrative leave with pay while he faced the charges, the details of which were never released.

Mr. Proctor, who was named the village’s officer of the year in 2014, did not return a call for comment. With nearly 17 years on the force, Mr. Proctor is not eligible for a pension from Sag Harbor. He had been making $128,304 annually.

The Sag Harbor Village Board accepted his resignation at a special meeting on Monday afternoon. Patrick Milazzo, the president of the Sag Harbor Village Police Benevolent Association and a village officer, had no comment when reached on Monday.

Police Chief Austin J. McGuire said the village has withdrawn the charges. He declined to comment further, except to say the position would be filled. Left without a detective for the last 15 months, the village has called in the state police to help with investigations.
