Charged With Stolen Car

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:26

A 61-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested with a stolen car and metal knuckles, which are considered a weapon, in the 7-Eleven parking lot in Montauk on April 24 at about 9:50 p.m.

East Hampton Town police said an officer saw the 2015 Jeep parked in the parking lot’s exit, onto Montauk Highway, with the doors open and the hazard lights on, but no driver behind the wheel. When Michael J. Patterson came out of the store and walked toward the Jeep, he admitted to police that he was the driver. Police ran the plates and found the Jeep, worth $12,000, had been reported stolen from Queens earlier in the day. It belonged to Jia He, and had been left running with keys in the ignition.

Police asked Mr. Patterson if he had any weapons and he produced metal knuckles from his pocket. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.

East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana arraigned Mr. Patterson last Thursday. He was held without bail and turned over to the Suffolk County sheriff. He was due back in court on Tuesday and was released on his own recognizance because he had not been indicted.

An East Hampton man was arrested for violating a court order on Saturday. Julian A. Rojas, 56, was charged with criminal contempt in the second degree, a misdemeanor. Police said he called a Middle Highway, East Hampton house several times , which violated an order of protection. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment on Sunday.
