Dear David,

    I just became aware of the 30th annual Fall Festival, supported by the Montauk Chamber of Commerce, being held on Oct. 8 and 9 in Montauk. Paul Monte, owner of Gurney’s Inn, heads the chamber.

    Friday evening, Oct. 7, through Saturday evening, Oct. 8, is the most holy of the Jewish holidays, Yom Kippur — a day of fasting! This festival has scheduled its chowder contest on that day.

Let Us Not Forget

Dear Editor:

    It has been 10 years since the terrorist attacks on our country. At the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and in the field in Pennsylvania many innocent lives were lost.

    Let us remember those brave firemen and policemen who risked and lost their lives trying to rescue the victims.

    Let us fly the American flag proudly as we did just after the attacks. Do you remember our flag flew along the highways, on overpasses, and from homes and businesses?

Our Heritage

To the Editor,

    Milton Miller was the guest speaker at the Springs Historical Society on Sunday, Aug. 21, and treated us with his accounts of growing up in Amagansett. Born 92 years ago, his memories of growing up back then were enlightening and entertaining.

    Hugh King, as the interviewer, sparked memories of Milt’s life and touched on his many memories of fishing, schooling, and making do, from the 1920s on. It was a lifestyle of strong community bonds and helpfulness.
