The first blast of snow in eastern Suffolk County was not quite enough for a snow day, but icy roads caused a two-hour delay for some school openings on Tuesday morning.

The East Hampton Village Board will unveil a plan for a redesign of Herrick Park that features more formalized entrances, reconfigured ball fields, and new pathways and children's play areas next Thursday morning. Later that day, the public will get a chance to weigh in on the proposal at a special 5:30 p.m. hearing to be held at the East Hampton Middle School auditorium.

A fire broke out Friday night in an outbuilding at Marders, a garden shop and nursery in Bridgehampton. Smoke billowed out from the property, behind the Bridgehampton Commons, as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

Moscow (pronounced Moscoe) is about a two-hour drive from Spokane, Wash., through the lake town of Coeur d’Alene, and the rolling “palouses,” or fields of wheat, soy, and other crops.  Named after Moscow, Pa., not the Russian city, this town of about 25,000 is home to the University of Idaho and close to the border of Washington State.
